Editing the VirtualFriend 2 System Registry

The following document is intended to help the user who is experiencing an unusually high number of problems running VirtualFriend software. Use this document if uninstalling/re-installing hasn’t helped. You can perform this procedure whether or not VirtualFriend is currently installed.

To Edit the System Registry

Use the following steps to edit your system registry by removing any traces of old VirtualFriend versions that may be causing conflicts.

Caution: Changing settings in unknown areas of the system registry is ill advised, and may cause damage to your system. Follow these steps precisely to insure that you don’t cause damage to your system.

  1. Select Start Menu > Run
  2. In the "open" field, type regedit, and click OK.

RegEdit runs, and shows a split screen, with the "Tree" style interface on the left.

  1. In the left panel of the Registry Editor window, scroll down and double-click
  2. on "HKEY_CURRENT_USER".

  3. Double-click on Software > Haptek > Virtual_Friend.
  4. If you have a VirtualFriend license code, but don’t know what it is, continue with step number 6. Otherwise, skip to step number 9.

  1. Double-click on CurrentVersion > Friends > Settings > Profile.
  2. On the right-hand panel of Regedit, find the name "Password2.0".
  3. The corresponding "data" in Password2.0 is your VirtualFriend license code.

  4. Write down your license code. It should be 9 characters.
  5. On the left-hand panel of RegEdit, single-click on "Virtual_Friend".
  6. Delete the "Virtual_Friend" entry by pressing Delete.
  7. Close Regedit.
  8. Run VirtualFriend, and re-enter your license code. Have fun!
